My name is Jordanne Otero. I grew up in the DMV and love calling it my home. Art became an important part of my life back in high school, and since then, creating artwork has been a hobby of mine that I've cultivated at home and in my free time. As a full-time employee, mom, and active community member, finding time to create new work can be difficult. Art is something I strive to do more frequently so that as life continues to grow around me, I do not lose this important piece of who I am.

If I could get anything out of this site, it would be to raise my children with an understanding of community – creating something to be shared within that community – as well as a deep appreciation for the talents and surprises everyone has to offer. We should always encourage personal growth, stepping out of our boundaries, and supporting our neighbors in the creative and talented endeavors that turn a home craft into a small or booming local business.

This site and my artwork are my self-care. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.

Me and my son. Now that he is bigger I am finding time again to get back into my art. Mommas need their time too and in my case its finding time to create and kayak.

My studio can be a little unorthodox. This was my "studio" in our one-bedroom DC apartment where I created my paintings “Marilyn,” “Apaixonar,” “Kiss,” and “Waves.”

Sometimes I like to use pictures and paintings that I love as inspiration or as a model to recreate something in my own style. My process is unorthodox, much like my space. To create bold outlines, I cover a canvas with painter's tape and draw the image or scene I want to create. Once the sketch is done, I carefully use an X-acto knife to cut away the tape, leaving behind my own makeshift stencil. I know there's an easier way to do this, but this process works best for me. Here's a picture of my "wave" painting in its early stages

This is one of my pieces in its third stage. Once the tape is removed and my stencil is secure, I begin painting the artwork. I love the vibrant colors and the abstract style of all my paintings. There is order in chaos and beauty in simple things, and I try to incorporate this as much as I can. Sometimes I love the outcome and it comes naturally and other times I have to work a little longer and sometimes it is more frustrating to get the absolute outcome I want. In this case, The final outcome of this particular painting placed it in my top 3 personal favorites. “Apaixonar”
